Latymer Boathouse, London

Roles: Architectural Services, Project Management, Technical Advisor, Cost Management, and Structural Design Services

The Latymer School Boathouse is part of the campus of Latymer Prep School in Hammersmith, London. The original design was completed in 1964 by Richard Seifert and Partners, notable for the design of Centre Point and Tower 42 (previously the NatWest Tower).

3BM Studio were appointed to improve the thermal efficiency of the building fabric. Our proposals included a replacement façade design which would facilitate the needs of the Rowing Club and the residents of the upper storey apartments.

Solar glazing and louvres to the south facing river façade has improved the internal comfort and reduces the need for environmentally damaging mechanical ventilation.

Our proposals aim to honour the modernist spirit of the original design whilst being sympathetic to the conservation area setting. Rationalising the window arrangement has enabled the new façade to open with unobstructed views of the River Thames.
