William Morris Sixth Form, London

Roles: Architectural Services

3BM were commissioned by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham to provide a new standalone SEN dedicated facility to consolidate the SEN teaching and support provision within one space. The space at William Morris Sixth Form was provided by the refurbishment and front and rear extension of the historic (early 20th century) medical school unit at the front of the site.  In order to consolidate the accommodation, a new glazed link between two historic buildings on the locally listed site was formed. This provided a much needed physical connection whilst allowing a permeable visual response to the surrounding buildings.

The quality of light and atmosphere within the building was considered important hence the use of materials such as curtain walling and translucent polycarbonate cladding. The final output has delivered a space that has vastly improved the learning environment and experience for the SEN students, whilst minimising the impact upon the existing buildings.
