Queen’s Manor Primary School, London

Roles: Architectural Services, Planning Consultancy, Project Management, Cost Management, and Client Design Advisor

3BM were appointed by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on this unique project, to provide a new SEN school within the grounds of an existing Grade II Listed primary school site, and within a Conservation Area. The prestigious context was a driver for a timeless design. While traditional materials such as stone are used the buildings still have their own modern minimalist look which does not detract from the more decorated historic buildings.

The scheme presented the design challenge of ensuring the buildings are different enough in their appearance to clearly define two separate uses but of a similar style in order to show unity. The facilities are split between community-use and school-use, so the internal arrangements vary for each building. They both function as separate entities, whilst maintaining their uniform image. There is a coherent relationship between the two newest additions, which marks the start of a distinct, new building era across the site.
